A fan petition calling for Stranger Things content to return to Dead by Daylight is quickly picking up traction after the release of Season 4 Vol 1.
A petition to bring Stranger Things content back to Dead by Daylight has amassed over 14,000 signatures in less than 24 hours as interest in the Netflix show grows following the release of Season 4 Volume 1. The Dead by Daylight Stranger Things content was removed from the game in November 2021.
Since its launch in 2016, Dead by Daylight has added new content in the form of themed Chapters that featured an array of licensed Killers, Survivors, and locations from well-known horror franchises. In September 2019, Dead By Daylight launched its 13th Chapter based on Stranger Things, which included the monstrous Demogorgon as its Killer, and Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington – the latter of which had a legendary cosmetic to transform him into Nancy’s other love interest Jonathan Byers – and a location based on the Hawkins National Laboratory. Fans were surprised when Behaviour Interactive announced that all Stranger Things content would be removed from its store and that the Hawkins National Laboratory map would no longer be playable as of November last year, especially considering five new cosmetic sets were made available alongside a small rework of the Dead By Daylight Demogorgon gameplay earlier that year.
With the release of Stanger Things 4 Volume 1 on Netflix last week, fan demand to see Stranger Things return to Dead by Daylight has increased. Twitter user Schmuckles began a Change.org petition to see the popular IP’s return, and in less than 24 hours it had amassed over 14,000 signatures, with that having increased to over 15,000 by the time of writing. Other fans on Twitter have pointed out that whilst they do wish to see the original content return, it would also be nice to see it updated to include new characters and locations that have been introduced in later seasons, such as Season 4’s latest antagonist Vecna.
This isn’t the first petition surrounding Stranger Things‘ removal from Dead by Daylight, which many believed was due to the licensing deal with Netflix expiring. Prior to the content being pulled, a similar Change.org petition was raised to keep the content in the game, however, this was less successful than Schmuckles, likely due to the drought of Stranger Things updates and news between the release of Season 3 and 4.
If the removal is simply due to a licensing agreement, some fans are speculating that Netflix is waiting for the second part of Stranger Things Season 4 to release in July, or even the release of its fifth and final season, before renewing it to allow more characters and locations to be added to Dead by Daylight. Until there is any official confirmation, petitions like Schmuckles’ do seem to be a good way for fans to show the developer – and Netflix – that there is a high level of interest in seeing the world of Hawkins making a return to Dead by Daylight.
