Some PlayStation players are upset with the newly-announced PS Plus games for February 2022, with many taking to social media with their frustrations.
As January comes to a close, the next batch of PlayStation Plus games have been announced, but fans have taken to social media to vent their disappointment and anger with the line-up. Revealed earlier this week, February’s PS Plus games are EA Sports UFC 4, Planet Coaster: Console Edition, and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.
PS Plus is a subscription service that allows users online access to multiplayer, while also offering out a small selection of games each month, along with some store discounts and access to the PS5 PS Plus Collection. The monthly games can be downloaded during a set period, and will remain in users’ libraries and stay playable for as long as their subscription stays active. The service has drawn criticism from fans for some time, with many unhappy with the monthly offerings, which typically include older games. December 2021 was a particularly frustrating month for many, as PS Plus added Godfall without the campaign mode.
Following PlayStation’s announcement of February 2022’s PS Plus games, subscribers are expressing their disappointment and frustrations not only with the line-up, but with the service itself. Many have been quick to point out that Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, which is campaign DLC for Borderlands 2, has actually been part of the PS Plus service before, having been included in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in June 2019. While some fans, including DLbi12John_boy, branded the line-up as “disappointing,” user FelixAndrews described some of the recent PS Plus offerings as “vaguely deceptive and scummy.” xpolydor1989 said February’s games are “probably the worst PS Plus month,” while Noreia_96 is one of many asking for no more sports games.
PS Plus continues to draw criticism from fans, but it’s possible this won’t continue for much longer, as it’s believed that PlayStation is designing a Game Pass competitor. Xbox Game Pass is more akin to PlayStation Now than PS Plus, but it’s rumored that Sony may be consolidating its subscription services into one package, which would aim to compete with Xbox’s highly-praised Game Pass. News of such a competitor may be imminent, though Sony has remained quiet on the leaks and speculation despite the growing evidence.
While it’s still not clear whether PS Plus will continue in its current form, the consistent push-back from subscribers suggests Sony needs to do something to revamp the service. Previous monthly games have been petitioned by users, but PlayStation rarely responds to player backlash over the offerings. While February’s PS Plus games might appeal to many, it seems the majority are unimpressed, with hopes that PS Plus will improve in the future.
