We love treating ourselves to dinner and even take out as often as we can afford. Even though we love food, we don't always know what's going on behind the scenes of our favourite places to eat. We've listed all the Edmonton restaurants with health violations that are available to the public right now and sometimes the truth hurts.
According to Alberta Health Services, the health inspectors check out restaurants to make sure that that food is being served, prepared, and stored in a safe, hygienic manner.
They also check that the facilities are in line with the provincial legislature and operating standards.
If a restaurant fails its inspection, the inspector will write a formal report and either close the restaurant until the repairs or changes are complete or allow it to operate while changes are taking place.
With waves of food-borne illnesses that occasionally spread through the nation, we're lucky to have these inspections in place.
In Edmonton, you can see all the active health enforcement orders. After they're cleared, they are visible for a month before the information is pulled from their website.
Sabrina Atwal, a representative of Alberta Health Services, said the hidden orders require a Freedom of Information Request to view.
Right now, there are ten open enforcement orders from 2019. Here are the Edmonton restaurants that still have to make changes before they're cleared:
