Assassin’s Creed: The 10 Best Romances In The Franchise – Screen Rant

With so many characters in the franchise, Assassins Creed has delivered numerous memorable characters and romances to go along with them.
Since 2007, Ubisoft has regularly pumped out Assassins Creed content for longstanding fans and the company shows no signs of slowing down, as they continue to release updates on their new project, Assassin’s Creed: Infinity.
The games have transported fans from one location and time to another. Following beloved Assassins on their missions to stop Templars, gamers have done everything from pickpocketing enemy plans to organizing a brotherhood and even assassinating historical figures. Even with all of the key gaming moments, Ubisoft has inserted a little romance for its characters. Thankfully, these romances have also played pivotal roles in the game. Through these romances, Ubisoft developed strong characters, a good story, and made enjoyable gameplay.
The pair met in London and quickly became comrades. Henry Green provided Evie along with her twin brother, Jacob, with a great deal of information regarding the hierarchy of power concerning the lead villain, Crawford Starrick.
Evie and Henry share a few missions, with Evie even saving Henry’s life. They even share a kiss at the end of the game. There’s a clear attraction for both characters. Ultimately, it ends up being more lackluster than other romances in the franchise.  Fans can see the characters care for one another but it lacks substance.  It plays as more of a surface-level attraction than a deep bond.
Arno and Elise from Assassins Creed: Unity is a case of star-crossed lovers. Their first meeting as children took place at the Palace of Versailles, but the pair remained close through adulthood. Unfortunately, as they grew older they both swore fealty to opposing sides, with Arno choosing to be an Assassin, and Elise a Templar.

Their romance is organic in the beginning. They share a past, a few missions, and ultimately a great understanding of each other. However, the romance falls flat toward the end. As Elise values revenge for her father more than her love for Arno, it becomes less exciting for the player.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins brought fans the love story of Aya and Bayek, two of the best characters in Assassin’s Creed. The couple has known each other since childhood. They married and had one child, whose death left them estranged.
In the case of this couple, their love story for gamers is filled with sadness. While they have many physical interactions and most certainly a back story, the game shows the difficulty of love in the face of great loss. Romance is not always happy. It’s filled with strife and turmoil, a topic the franchise is not afraid to tackle.
This couple appeared in several of the franchise games. As Desmond was under lock and key, forced to relive a previous life in the Animus, their relationship didn’t develop straight away. It was only after Lucy busted Desmond out of Vidic’s lab, that trust and respect formed.

Lucy and Desmond are unlike other romantic relationships in the franchise. They have a clear bond, connected by their mission to obtain the Apple of Eden. They share words of encouragement and general support for one another but nothing further. It’s a subtle romance with a slow build. Unfortunately, Lucy’s true ambitions make it impossible for gamers to know how much further their romance could have gone.
Rather than being forced into a romance like other Assassin’s Creed games, romance is a choice in Assassins Creed: ValhallaOut of the many options the gamer has, Petra is one not to be missed.
While the game does allow the player the ability to choose, some romances affect the gameplay. Fortunately, that is not the case with Petra. The player can focus on Eivor’s relationship with Petra, a huntress, by performing a few tasks and side missions. The story is short, sweet, and to the point, which is something that can’t be said for other romances in the franchise.
When playing Assassins Creed: Odyssey it would be a poor decision to ignore Kyra as an option for a romantic arc. The character, the leader of a Spartan rebellion on the Silver Islands, is as passionate as they come.
As far as romance is concerned with this particular installment, Kyra is more than just a few flirt options. The story the player can have as either Alexios/Kassandra with Kyra has considerable more depth. At the end of the gameplay, the player doesn’t want their connection, their interactions to end.
The romance in Assassins Creed: Black Flag begins before Edward Kenway even becomes an Assassin. The couple has a fairly straightforward story. Caroline refuses Edward’s affections a handful of times before ultimately realizing her love for him despite her engagement to a man named Hague.

The story is cut and dry, but its importance can’t be understated. The love Edward carries for Caroline plays a big part in who he becomes as a pirate and Assassin. Edward tussles with a thief for Caroline. He plans a get-rich scheme in the West Indies in the name of a better life. The romance between these two is short-lived, but it’s integral to understanding Edward’s motivations.
Assassins Creed II launched gamers into the Italian Renaissance and the world of Ezio Auditore. Right from the get-go, the love Ezio has for Cristina is introduced. Vying for Cristina’s affections before and after Ezio becomes an Assassin, gamers played the story from its beginning to its sad ending.
It’s easy to understand the romance in this pairing. It’s young love, passionate love with two likable characters. The couple has sweet moments, but they also face great difficulty. It’s this range that makes their romance great, in addition to the fact that it feels so integral to Ezio’s character.
While the loss of Ezio’s first love was felt, it doesn’t downplay the quality of his second. Ezio and Sofia don’t meet until Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, where Ezio is a much older man. The pair form a mutually beneficial working relationship before it turns romantic.
This romance has two key elements pushing it forward: Ezio’s age and their partnership. Ezio has already lived a long and somewhat dangerous life, one filled with loss. Still, he chooses to partner with Sofia, a lover of books, not blades. Their relationship is like none other in the franchise, and once again, it makes sense to Ezio’s character overall.
These two characters appeared in the first installment of Assassin’s Creed, making them the first romantic couple. Altair and Maria are other examples of characters who have opposing allegiances. Maria is a member of the Templars, and Altair is an Assassin, making their initial meeting as well as their romantic arc fun and interesting.
Their love story begins as a cat and mouse game. Maria tries to escape or thwart Altair at every opportunity. Their romantic build is exciting and, ultimately, it makes sense to the story, and it plays completely natural. It doesn’t feel forced, and most importantly doesn’t take away from the game.
