When McClung died of a heart attack, his niece Betty and her husband Joe Teska inherited the business and grew it to include exotic, wild animals. Joe lost his thumb to a rattlesnake bite, and a bear attack at the cost him $30,000 in medical bills, he told the Express-News. After selling the Snake Farm to John Mellyn and his wife Susan, the Teskas moved to Louisiana.

Dallas-based chiropractor and animal activist Eric Trager has been the current owner since he took over the business in 2007, with the intent of evolving the Snake Farm’s mission to serve as a refuge and fully accredited zoo.
Under Trager’s tenure, the Snake Farm has been re-branded as the Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo to include the vast collection of animals at the park, such as these adorable three mountain lion cubs.
There are currently more than 700 snakes at the Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo, according to Trager. The number continues to climb as people find snakes on their property and choose not to kill them, or purchase them as pets without realizing the extent of the responsibilities involved. Trager is actively building the snake collection.
Trager said he is working to amass the largest collection of rattlesnakes in the world. There are 92 sub-species of rattlers, and the Snake Farm has over 70 of them.

When a pair of rare white lion cubs, named Motswari and Ngala, debuted at Animal World and Snake Farm in 2014, they were two of less than 300 white lions in the world.

Other animals include an otter, lemur, coati, capybara, grey wolf, jaguar, mountain lion and hyena. The zoo’s current white lion residents are Motswari and Ngala, a male and female, who are the parents of the babies.
Admission for adults is $12.75, children are $9.75 or free for those 2 and under, according to the website.
