Rocket League developer and publisher Psyonix has announced the return of the Gridiron Games as well as the Gridiron LTM and the NFL Pass.
Super Bowl LVI is coming to Rocket League with the return of the Gridiron Games. The first edition of the Gridiron Games was held last year and included some of the game’s biggest and best content creators and professional players. The one-day tournament was held as part of Rocket League and the NFL’s crossover event to celebrate Super Bowl LV. The multi-month event also featured the new Gridiron LTM (Limited Time Mode), the NFL Pass, and more. Psyonix then brought back the Gridiron Games for its second run late last year in November.
The Gridiron Games is played in the crossover event’s aforementioned Gridiron limited-time mode, which changes Rocket League’s standard format in several ways. The unique game mode pits two teams of four players against each other, instead of the usual 3-vs-3 format. Players also won’t need to kick around the ball as it will instead be attached to a player until another car touches and takes it. The limited-time mode expectedly features many elements of American football, giving those familiar with the popular sport an advantage when learning how to play Rocket League’s Gridiron mode.
Psyonix announced the return of the Gridiron Games in a new Rocket League blog post. 2022’s edition of the Gridiron Games is slightly different from the ones held last year, with the event’s lineup of content creators and professional players already sorted out into four teams of four rather than being drafted by chosen captains. The teams will be playing 4-quarter matches, similar to real American football, to determine the champion. The Gridiron Games will be streamed on Twitch starting February 10, 2022, and will be hosted by RLCS pro and First Touch host Roll Dizz as well as coach and content creator Virge.
Apart from the Gridiron Games, the Rocket League NFL Pass and Gridiron LTM have also made comebacks and will be available from February 9 to 15, 2022. Purchasing the NFL Pass will not only include this year’s new cosmetics but also grant all the content from its previous iterations, including decals, toppers, banners, and antennas featuring the NFL’s 32 teams. As for the Gridiron LTM, completing challenges within the mode will reward players with XP, new NFL Wheels, and the Field General player title.
The return of the Gridiron LTM is the second to be made available for the year after last month’s Neon Nights event that featured the Heatseeker Ricochet LTM. While Rocket League’s array of limited-time game modes help break the monotony of its standard format, their short availability makes enjoying them shortlived. While some players may want to get the chance to play these unique modes any time they want, it’s unlikely that Rocket League‘s limited-time modes will become permanent.
Fans of both the Gridiron LTM and the NFL should make the most of their time with the Rocket League game mode and maybe grab the NFL Pass while they’re available. Fans can also check out the Gridiron Games to see some of the game’s most prolific creators and professional players duke it out in the unique game mode.
Rocket League is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
