MultiVersus Removes Gandalf & Stranger Things' Eleven References – Screen Rant

MultiVersus previously contained voice line data referencing characters like Gandalf and Eleven, but these files have been mysteriously removed.
A recent MultiVersus datamine reveals that references to several characters, including Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and Eleven from Stranger Things, have been cut from the game. The massive Warner Bros. crossover fighting game pulls together characters from various franchises including DC Comics, Game of Thrones and Looney Tunes. The MultiVersus open beta soft launched the game today, July 26, and the title’s newest version has removed references to certain Warner Bros. icons.
Like other crossover fighting games, MultiVersus boasts a large roster of heroes and villains from various properties. However, unlike Super Smash Bros., most of these playable brawlers come from different films and television series created by Warner Bros. In MultiVersus players can fly around as Superman, wield Gem abilities as Steven Universe or wreak havoc as the Tasmanian Devil. All of these characters are also fully voiced by recognizable actors, and developer Player First Games will continue adding additional characters to the free-to-play title over time. Recently MultiVersus confirmed Rick, Morty and LeBron James as future fighters, but other anticipated characters may have been cut from the crossover experience.

As reported by TheGamer, a recent datamine reveals that voice lines referencing various characters have been removed from MultiVersus’ files. According to Reddit user JPMB5555 the chaotic crossover’s files previously contained voice lines referencing Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings, Eleven from Stranger Things, the titular protagonist of Craig of the Creek and Game of Thrones characters Daenerys and The Hound. These lines have all been removed with the game’s open beta launch, suggesting that these five characters are no longer planned for the future. However, the removal of these lines may simply be an attempt to prevent future leaks.
While an item called the Founder’s Pack teases that MultiVersus will add 19 new characters after launch, if not more, the removal of voice lines suggests that some fighters may be cancelled. Gandalf was part of the game’s first leaked roster back before MultiVersus was officially announced, making his removal quite surprising. More recent rumors point towards Daenerys and The Hound joining Arya Stark as Game of Thrones representatives, owing to the HBO series’ massive popularity. However, it now seems possible that Player First Games no longer plans to add these characters or Strange Things’ psychic child Eleven.
MultiVersus promises to deliver a truly massive and ever-growing roster of Warner Bros. icons for players to control in platform combat. However, the removal of voice line data hints that Lord of the Rings and Stranger Things fan may be disappointed by a lack of Gandalf and Eleven. Still, the removal of these voice lines may just be a temporary measure until these entertainment icons are ready to join MultiVersus properly.
