The new Fallout 76 update entitled “Test Your Metal” adds three new challenges to the game, and its release coincides with the beginning of Season 9.
A new Fallout 76 update entitled Test Your Metal will introduce three new Public Events, marking the beginning of Season 9. The Test Your Metal update was first teased in a Fallout 76 roadmap released in February, which announced 4 major updates would come to the game throughout the course of 2022. Test Your Metal is the game’s summer update and promises challenges that will bring special rewards.
Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer RPG based on the Fallout series, set as a prequel to the other titles. Although the game faced scrutiny upon release in 2018 for its host of bugs and glitches, it has since been consistent about bug improvement and adding new content for players to enjoy. This has included the addition of Fallout 76 seasons alongside numerous Public Events for players to participate in, often including unique gear and loot. Each new Fallout 76 season includes a scoreboard for players to level up on through participating in seasonal challenges, and as they level up, they will unlock limited-time offers like new C.A.M.P. items and skins.
Fallout 76‘s Test Your Metal update has officially been released, marking the beginning of the ninth season. Test Your Metal brings 3 new Public Events to the game, detailed in a Bethesda press release. The new Public Events are: Test Your Metal, which pits players against the Rust Eagles, Eviction Notice, which sees Super Mutants overrunning an encampment and threatening a Rad Scrubber, and Moonshine Jamboree, about collecting Gulper Venom to create Mire Magic Moonshine. Season 9 also introduces a new journey on the area of Dread Island, which offers its own unique scoreboard rewards.
Despite a rocky start, it becomes clearer with every update that Fallout 76 has grown beyond its bad reputation. Each new season introduces quality player activities, challenges, and rewards for users to enjoy while helping to keep the game interesting. These new Public Events will likely require quite a bit of strategy and teamwork from players and contain interesting plot lines that help basic concepts like defending against a horde still feel fresh and worthwhile. The new area of Dread Island also provides an intriguing storyline for players to take part in, with a teasing mystery, hidden treasures, and an ever-changing environment to dive into.
Over three years after release Fallout 76 seems to have developed a formula that has helped it stand on its own against other Fallout series titles. Although some players do still have valid complaints about how Fallout 76 retcons lore – which hurts that of previous games – the gameplay itself, and storylines that don’t affect other Fallout titles, have proven the game is worth players’ time. With several more updates planned for this year, it is likely Fallout 76 players will have much to look forward to in the coming months.
