Get your sweet tooth on by visiting some amazing bakeries around the dining halls, ranging from Baked by Melissa to The City Bakery.

Bakeries in New York City offer delicious and original takes on traditional recipes. College can be stressful, and we all need a little bit of sweetness in our lives. Here’s a list of great bakeries near the NYU dorms for your sugary needs.
U-Hall, Third North and Coral Towers
Milk Bar, Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 a.m; Friday – Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Address: 251 E. 13th St.  
Founded by Masterchef judge Christina Tosi in 2008, Milk Bar is known for it’s creative twists on traditional desserts. The most notable desserts are the cereal milk ice cream, compost cookies and crack pie. The dessert shop is also lauded for its naked cakes, which sport unfrosted sides.
Palladium and 13th Street
Baked by Melissa, Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m ; Saturday – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Address: 7 E. 14th St.
Baked by Melissa, famous for its amazing cupcakes, has been growing in popularity since 2008. However, this is not all that the bakery has to offer. For example, their macarons are delicious. They offer flavors like red velvet with chocolate and vanilla drizzle, snickerdoodle topped with cinnamon sugar and cookie dough with chocolate drizzle.
Carlyle
Las Delicias Patisserie, Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday Address: Union Square W & East 17th Street, Union Square Green Market
Located in the famous Union Square Green Market, Las Delicias Patisserie offers gluten-free options. The bakers like reimagining traditional recipes the owners learned growing up. Some of their well-known pastries include challah — a Jewish ceremonial bread — lemon tart and berry and cream scones.
Gramercy
The City Bakery, Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Address: 3 W. 18th St.
The genius behind The City Bakery, Maury Rubin, has opened 15 bakeries in 24 years. The bakery only uses organic ingredients for their fresh and delicious goods. Some of the amazing pastries they offer include chocolate shortbread with raspberry sugar, coconut macarons and brownies with cream cheese custard cut filled with Armagnac-spiked cherries.
Founders Hall, Alumni Hall and Brittany Hall
Breads Bakery, Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Address: 18 E. 16th St.
This nicely decorated bakery offers freshly-baked breads and pastries. The bakery only uses organic ingredients for their fresh and delicious goods.
Green House
Abraco, Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6; Sunday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Address: 81 E. Seventh St.
Although Abraco is a coffee and espresso bar, it also make delicious homemade desserts. All of its creations combine sweet and savory combinations. Be sure to try their thyme lemon shortbread cookies, chocolate babka and olive oil cake.
Weinstein Hall, Goddard Hall and Rubin Hall      
Mille-feuille Bakery Cafe, Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Address: 552 LaGuardia Pl.   
After discovering his passion for baking, Olivier Dessyn left his computer software job in Paris and  opened his first bakery in New York City. The cafe owners offers great cakes, macarons and delicate pastries. Some of the bakery’s popular dishes include the chocolate eclair, pecan chocolate and caramel tart and mille-feuille with vanilla bean or crunchy praline.                                                                   
Lipton Hall
Pasticceria Rocco, Hours: 7.30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Address: 243 Bleecker St.
This Italian bakery offers a selection of cakes, cookies, pastries and gelato. It is a family-owned shop that has been baking traditional Italian pastries since 1974. Some of their most famous treats include cannolis, banana cream pies and Panettone Genovese.                                                                                                                                                 
Second Street
Moishe’s Bakeshop, Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Address: 115 Second Ave.
Moishe’s Bakeshop is providing the East Village with kosher goods. Some of their most famous items include apple strudels, chocolate danishes and Teiglach pastries.
Greenwich Street
Sweets by Chloe, Hours: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Address: 185 Bleecker St.
An NYU favourite, by Chloe offers vegan, baked-by-scratch pastries. Matcha chocolate Babka, mocha almond fudge cake and pumpkin cinnamon rolls are some of the many delicious pastries they offer.
Lafayette Hall
Taipan Bakery, Hours: 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Address: 194 Canal St.
Taipan Bakery serves a delectable selection of Chinese baked good. Whether you’re missing familiar flavors or looking to try something new, this bakery will have something for you. Popular treats include egg tarts, pork buns and Swiss roll cake.
Broome Street          
Ferrara Bakery, Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. to 12 a.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Address: 195 Grand St.      
EStablished in 1892, Ferrara Bakery specializes in Italian desserts and espresso. The offer traditional fare — like cannolis, biscotti and tiramisu — as well as specialty pastries.  The a wide selection of tarts, gelato and cheesecakes.   
Othmer Hall    
Piece of Velvet, Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Address: 708A Fulton St., Brooklyn  
Piece of Velvet values smoothness in every bite. They aim to resurrect traditional velvet recipes created in Brooklyn. From delicious red velvet cakes to red velvet puddings, Piece of Velvet will revitalize your taste buds.
