Call of Duty: Vanguard Players Are Criticizing The Game's Field Upgrades – GameRant

One player is listing why Call of Duty: Vanguard’s field upgrade system is currently doing very little for the popular multiplayer game.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is the latest installment in the popular first-person shooter series, developed by Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch, it was released last November to an array of criticism relating to glitches and lack of content. Now five months into the game's lifecycle, some players are still not satisfied with Vanguard's field upgrade system when venturing into its multiplayer mode.
Field upgrades act as an extra perk in Call of Duty: Vanguard, recharging over time within matches, adding an extra element of strategy to the fast-paced gameplay, and allowing players to aid teammates or benefit themselves when engaging in gunfights. However, one player has taken to Reddit to outline why their inclusion in multiplayer is useless. The field upgrades in question are the supply box, Goliath, dead silence, jammer, deployable cover, armor, field mic, tactical insertion and, dead drop which allows killstreaks upon death.

A Redditor by the name Kingtinkerer102 has detailed some issues of the field upgrades on offer in Call of Duty: Vanguard. The user highlights that both armor and the tactical insertion take too long to use, which can result in the player’s death, and there is no point in dead silence when footsteps are already indiscernible. They continue to say that some field upgrades have limited capability, with the deployable cover being practical for completing long-shot camo challenges and while the supply box can be reasonably useful, its explosion on impact can become more of a hindrance to teammates. Additionally, the OP points out that the field mic upgrade is too vulnerable to killstreaks and tank-like Goliath is too slow to be of service.
Many have commented on the post, with some defending the use of some field upgrades such as the jammer, though others believe it doesn't fit with the hectic blitz pacing of the game. Additionally, balance to the argument was made concerning the death drop upgrade, with the point of contention being poor respawn locations when deployed in smaller maps like Shipment.
Call of Duty: Vanguard was already in the firing line prior to its release as a WW2 reskin of Modern Warfare’s 2019 revitalization. Utilizing the same IW8 engine, its quick time-to-kill mechanic, and field upgrade system borrows aspects from Infinity Ward’s title with upgrades like dead silence. Despite various tweaks to tactical grenades already during Vanguard’s lifecycle, the lack of a trophy system due to historical inaccuracy remains a point of frustration for many as the store offers Attack on Titan skins and interstellar weapon mastercrafts.
As the reboot to the 2017’s WW2 title, Call of Duty: Vanguard has been criticized for many aspects in its gameplay since its release. It is currently unknown whether Sledgehammer Games will rework some of its mechanics as they did with their previous title, overhauling the entire division system which acted similar to the field upgrade system.
